I absolutely love holiday books and, like all books, enjoy a mixture of content: classics, educational, fun, familiar characters and sentimental. In addition to classics and popular character versions, there are many wonderful new and diverse stories being shared. We have lots of Christmas books so I try to limit what I buy and have a long list to buy and/or rent in the coming year. Thankfully our kids have the benefit of reading a wide variety at school as we haven’t however been using our local library like usual due to COVID. In the meantime, these are (just) ten of my favorite Christmas books with a bonus special mention as well.
- The Story of Christmas by Patricia A. Pingry Board book
- The Polar Express by Chris Van Allsburg Classic hard cover
- Santa’s Sleigh Is on Its Way To Ohio by Eric James Great to read before bed Christmas Eve.
- The Very First Christmas by Lori C. Froeb Board book, tabbed
- How the Grinch Stole Christmas by Dr. Seuss Class hard cover, link to Khol’s Cares bundle with plush Grinch
- The ABC’s of Christmas by Jo Parker Board book
- Home Alone by Kim Smith Hardcover (there’s also a Home Alone 2 and Elf storybook, just released October 2020)
- Eight Jolly Reindeer by Illanit Oliver Board book, tabbed
- You’re My Little Christmas Wish by Nicola Edwards Board book
- The Night Before Christmas by Clement C. Moore Board book classic OR Khol’s Cares The Night Before Christmas Bundle with plush Santa
Special Mention: Native American 12 Days of Christmas Adapted and Written by Gary Robinson, Illustrations by Jesse T. Hummingbird This one is special to me because I bought it at a local restaurant up in the mountains outside of Denver when I was traveling for work. My oldest was maybe six months old and it was right before his first Christmas. It was my first ever business trip, let alone first leaving as a new mom. It was hard and I wasn’t able to truly enjoy the beauty of Colorado. This book reminds me of my vow to return some day with my family and properly enjoy all Colorado has to offer.
