Your Health: It Has to Be a Lifestyle

Your Health: It Has to Be a Lifestyle

We all have our own unique set of circumstances or factors that affect our ability to get, and stay, healthy and fit. We have different responsibilities, schedules, resources, starting points/preexisting conditions, the list goes on. Most importantly, we are all built differently-physically and mentally.

That being said, I have never been a fan of diets or fads. I am not a dietitian nor fitness trainer. I am someone whose weight has fluctuated, who grew up in the era of ‘clean plate club’ and the excess of food typical for those able to afford it.
I have always been active although, just as my awareness and knowledge of healthy eating has evolved, so has my knowledge and awareness of physical fitness and exercise.

What once may have been thought to be healthy, or may have worked for us, has changed. We know now that our bodies really do not need the kinds of complex carbs found in pastas and breads, that added sugar can be toxic to our bodies. We know that cardio, while important, will not alone help us achieve fitness goals and that we can plateau.

We know our bodies need real food, a mix of veggies and fruits and proteins, that we need to work our muscles in different ways. Most importantly, we know that consistency is key. It is harder to start a new routine than to break one. That is why we have to have adapt the outlook of striving for a healthy lifestyle, for it to be ingrained in our day to day, not an unattainable goal or vain resolution for the short term.

I’m no expert but I’ve been there. I’ve learned. I’ve had three kids and gained a LOT of weight for my 5’4″ frame with each pregnancy and, not only lost it each time, but gotten in good shape. I’ve learned how important it is to make it a priority, for your mind and body, to find what works for you and live a healthy lifestyle, for yourself and your family.
